Accton Unveils Skype-enabled Handset
November 11, 2005
According to an announcement by Taiwanese Accton, the company has released a Skype-enabled Wi-Fi handset which allows users to access Skype without a PC. The handset boasts over 20 hours standby time and up to four hours talking time, and has an initial price tag of US$150, which the company expects to lower to about US$100 by the first quarter of 2006. Accton plans to ship 5000 of these handsets in December 2005 for tests by Skype's distributors and WLAN providers and start mass production in the first quarter of 2006. In March 2006, Accton will also be rolling out a dual-mode handset with GSM and Skype functionality, jointly developed with Compal.
